Location: The sanctuary is located along the river Godavari in Adilabad and Karimnagar districts. It is 50 km. from Mancherial in Adilabad district. and 10kms from Manthani in Karimnagar District, and 80kms from Karimnagar dist Head. Coverage area: 36.29 Sq. km. Main attractions : The sanctuary is noted for the presence of marsh Crocodiles in the river Godavari, etc.

Best time to visit : December to April.

Prahahita wildlife Sanctuary, Adilabad tourist places

Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary, It is located in Chinnur- Mancherial forest division, Adilabad district, about 300-km north east of Hyderabad. This sanctuary spreads over 136-sq-kms along the Pranahita River with an undulating terrain.

The habitat found here are dry deciduous teak forests. NOTE:Due to Monsoon most of the sanctuaries are closed for visitors please check with us, Operation date of the sanctuaries before booking.

The various species of animals found here are Cheetal, Black Buck, Nilgai, Sloth Bear, Panther, and Tiger. A variety of birds including Brahminy Ducks, Teals, Storks and Herons can also be seen here.

The sanctuary is very rich in natural vegetation and various types of plants & trees are found here that include pterocarpus marsupium, dalbergia paniculata, dalbergia latifolia, ficus spp, dalbergia sissoo etc.

The sanctuary also shelters a wide array of birds. The common that one can see around are strokes, teals, ducks, herons etc.

Kuntala waterfall, Adilabad tourist places

Kuntala Waterfall is waterfall located in Kuntala, Adilabad district, Andhra Pradesh. It is located on Kadem river in Neredigonda mandal. It is the highest waterfall in the state of Andhra Pradesh with a height of 147 feet (45 meters).

According to the popular and prevalent local belief Kuntala Waterfall got its name after Shakuntala, the beloved wife of King Dushyanth; the pair fell in love with each other and were mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the surroundings. The locals also believe that Shakuntala used to bathe by the waterfall.

Kuntala Waterfall, set amidst the Sahayadri mountain range in Andhra Pradesh, presents a wonderful vista with its gushing waters. Identified as the highest waterfalls of the state, the cascade attracts visitors from far and wide.

At a distance of about 40 kms from Adilabad city, the fall is to be found near Neredikonda Village in Adilabad district. Kuntala Waterfalls appear as a pleasant surprise, accessible through the twirling roads passing from dense forests.

As per the legends, Kuntala Waterfalls were named after the mythological figure Shakuntala, who was the beloved of King Dushyanta.It is said that both of them fell in love with each other amidst the spectacular beauty of the region.

Perhaps Shakuntala used to bathe in the waters of the cascade. Through the dense forests, River Kadam flows and tumbles gushing at Kuntala from the height of 45 meters, creating the astounding waterfall. One must experience the spectacle of water splashing down and turning into whirls.

Owing to this power surge, you can feel the air in the region crammed with the mist of the darting waters. The cool breeze, with the whiff of flora around, makes the whole atmosphere simply wonderful. In the monsoons, the splendor of the cascade becomes all the more beguiling, since the river comes down with heavy waters. It appears as if God himself likes this place as much as people do.

A temple dedicated to Someshwara Swami is located in the vicinity, where people come to pay their homage to the Lord. You can reach this temple by going through a passage made by a slit in the hill. It is Hindu temple of goddess Saraswati located on the banks of Godavari River at Basar. It is one of the two famous Saraswati temples in India, the other being in Jammu & Kashmir.

Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Jannaram 50-km from Mancherial, Adilabad district and is 260-kms from Hyderabad. It was established in 1965 and was originally managed as a ‘Game Reserve’. The climate in the Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is usually hot and dry, the only exception being the month of June to September, the time for the south west monsoons.

Adilabad By Air

Adilabad does not have an airport. Nearest airport is Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport(NAG) 166 km away. It is major airport and well connected to the other major airport like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore etc. Busses or private taxi available to reach Adilabad.

Adilabad By Train

There are no regular trains to Adilabad from other major cities of the state. Chandrapur Railway Station (CD)86 km away and is well connected with other major railhead such as Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, etc. Buses and taxi are available to reach Adilabad. Adilabad Railway station(ADB) is not well connected but you will get many train which is connecting to Maharashtra and Telangana.

There are no regular buses from other major cities but Nagpur is the best way to reach Adilabad. Take flight to Nagpur and take Bus to reach Adilabad.
