Gurdwara Haji Rattan, Bathinda tourist places

Pir Haji Ratan’s Mazar is one of the popular religious places of Bathinda. According to mythology, Baba Haji Ratan visited Mecca as an ambassador of King Bhoja. When he returned to India, he stayed in Bathinda and meditated. There is a gurudwara near the mazar, where the mosque and gurudwara have the same wall. Tourists come from far and wide to see this religious equality and fairness. Haji Ratan is the most unusual name for a Sikh gurdwara. While Talwandi Sabo Guru Gobind Singh camped here for the night outside the tomb of Muslim saint Haji Ratan.

The tomb keepers tried to dissuade the Guru from sleeping here, on the pretext that the place was haunted. As the Sikhs did not build tombs and the Guru, like other Sikhs, did not believe in ghosts, they spent the night to show people that such superstitions were underground. The most shocking thing is that Haji Baba Ratan of Bathinda, Punjab, claims that Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs consider him their own despite his strong Muslim connections. Haji can only be associated with the name of a Muslim as he has attended and performed all the events related to Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Dr. Yoginder Sikand in his book, “Sacred Spaces”, mentions the documents of twenty-five shrines, where there is a coordinated form of worship combining parts of different religions. The dargah of Sufi saint Haji Ratan is one.
