The city is located in the middle of the Thar Desert in the northwestern part of the state of Rajasthan.

It was founded in the year 1488 by the Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji. The city is famous for its rich Rajput culture, delicious Bhujia salted colorful festivals, magnificent palaces, beautiful sculptures and huge sand stone forts.

Who contributed significantly to the development of this city. The city remains in the limelight due to its ancient temples, huge forts, remnants of the culture of the Harappan civilization, and many other palaces. Bikaner was known as Jungle Desh during the reign of Rajputs in the 15th century.

Bikaner was built by Rajput ruler Rao Bika during 1488 AD. Rao Bika built a fort here in 1478 AD, which is currently famous as the fort of Junagadh. After Rao Bika’s time, major development has been possible in Bikaner during the rule of Raja Rai Singh. The reign of Raja Rai Singh lasted from 1571 AD to 1611 AD.

Raja Rai Singh rebuilt the Junagadh Fort, also known as Chintamani Durg, at a height of 760 feet. Maharaja Karn Singh whose reign was on Bikaner province from 1631 AD to 1639 AD.

It was during this time that the Karan Mahal Palace was built by him. During the reign of Maharaja Anup Singh, a “zanana” or women’s quarters was built here, which became a residence for women of the royal family of the palace.

The Karan Mahal here was renovated as ‘Diwan-e-Aam’ according to Maharaja Anoop Singh and renamed  Anoop Mahal.

Karni Mata Temple is a world-famous temple located about 30 kilometers from Bikaner in Rajasthan. This place is known for the dense population of mice living here. This sanctuary of Bikaner is dedicated to Karni Mata, one of the incarnations of Goddess Durga. This temple is known for more than 25000 black rats. Those who reside in this complex and undoubtedly remain the center of tourist attraction. This temple is also famous as the name of the temple of rats. This temple of Karni Mata is carved with stones and marble. The temple has silver gates built by Maharaja Ganga Singh. A hanging net has also been installed to protect the mice from birds. There is a popular story about Karani Mata when the son of Karani Mata dies. So she pleads with Yamdev to destroy her son’s life. But Yamdev does not accept his request. After this, Karani Mata, an incarnation of the Goddess, not only gives life to her child but also declares that her family will now live as rats. The Karni Mata temple has beautiful marble carvings. This magnificent building was built in the Mughal style in the 20th century by the late Sri Ganga Singh, the Maharaja of Bikaner. The front of the temple has a beautiful marble facade with solid silver gates made by Maharaja Ganga Singh. Inside the gate are the statue of Karni Mata and the Garvagraha.

One of the most beautiful temples is the Bhandasar Jain Temple, located at a distance of 5 km from Bikaner. It is a temple dedicated to the 5th Tirthankara, 15th century Sumatinath, in Jainism. Tourists can see mesmerizing mirrors, frescoes and gold-leaf paintings on the walls of the temple. According to one belief, the foundation of the temple is pure. Ghee and coconut have been used. The temple is famous for carvings, wall paintings, structural beauty and sculpture designs. Red sandstone and white stone have been beautifully carved. Gajner Palace is a famous tourist spot located on the banks of the lake inside the forest in Gajner near Bikaner. This palace was built by Raja Ganga Singh from red sandstone. During the ancient times, this palace was a lodge for hunting and kings of Bikaner.
