Nathula Pass Gangtok & East Sikkim
NathuLa Pass is a mountain pass that connects Sikkim with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
Located at an altitude of 4310 meters above sea level, it is located about 54 km east of Gangtok.
In Gangtok, only Indians with prior permission are allowed to roam the pass on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
There is also an Indian War Memorial. There is hardly any human treaty to be seen at this place except for a few people from the army,
in fact the task assigned to the army is that of protecting the borders on both sides except for a few men in one place Hardly any human can dispose.
The pass has many submerged areas and is also susceptible to landslides. The word ‘Nathu’ means ‘ear while listening’ and ‘la’ in Tibetan language means ‘pass’.
Nathu La Pass is one of the three open trade posts between China and India. This pass was sealed in 1962, it was done after the Indo-China war and it was reopened in 2006.
Also, various bilateral trade agreements were signed. A program is organized at the opening of the pass, involving military officers on both sides.
However, it was expected that trade between the two countries would increase through the pass, but no significant improvement has been shown so far.
But the reopening of the pass reduced the travel distance, thereby reducing the travel distance to various Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage centers in the area.
Geography of Nathu La This pass is situated at a distance of 54 km towards the east of Gangtok.
It remains closed during winter due to excessive snowfall. The maintenance of the road of this region has been entrusted to the Indian Army Wing-Border Roads Organization.
Transport The nearest railway station from Nathu La Pass is New Jalpaiguri Station.
The Indian government is shortly planning to expand train services from Sevoke in Darjeeling to Gangtok in Sikkim.

Bagdogra, West Bengal(IXB) is the nearest airport, located at distance of 124 km. One can book Bus,Share Taxi or Cab to reach their Gangtok. Pakyong Airport, Pakyong is also nearest but it is not recommende because frequent flight not available and some time flight also cancelled as per weather.
Gangtok By Train :
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is well connected and located 117km away. Regular trains run on all the major routes and cover cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. Bus, Cabs, Share taxis and public transport can be used to reach Gangtok, it takes 3-4 hours.
Gangtok By Bus :
Gangtok Bus Stand is well-connected to other major cities across India like Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kolkata. You can avail either state-owned government buses or private buses, depending on your budget and can book online and offline both.
