Gwalior is a district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This district is under the revenue division of Gwalior. This district is situated in the northern part of the state of Gwalior between latitude 2590 ‘N and 280 21’ N and longitude of 7080 ‘E and 8058’ E. The district is spread over an area of 2002 sq. M, which is about 1.1 percent of the total area of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior remained the capital of Central India from 1957 to 1958, but when Central India was added to Madhya Pradesh, it was given the shape of a district. Regular flights to Gwalior from Delhi, Bhopal, Indore and Mumbai are available by air. And it is also connected to the major cities of the country by rail route. This district was named after a famous fort. The name of this famous fort was derived from the name of “Pahadi”. This flat summit mountain was called Gopachal, Gopagiri, Gop Parvat or Gopadri and the word Gwalior is derived from it. There are many places to visit in Gwalior, in which the Gwalior fort is one of the major attraction. There are two ways to reach this fort. There is a Gwalior Gate, which can be reached only on foot. Tomb of Tansen is located at Tansen Nagar in Gwalior of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The city of Gwalior is popular among the people due to these historical heritage. There are many ancient buildings built in Indian and Islamic style also presents here. Mohammad Gaus and Tansen’s tomb are both in the same place, because his last wish while dying was to bury him where his master is buried. Tansen’s tomb in Gwalior is the place where one of the Navratnas of Akbar’s court, Mian Tansen, has been resting for 400 years, i.e. there is a burial here. According to Akbar Nama, Tansen was a composer in his court from 1562 to 1586 and this time was the golden time of Mughal history. It is said about Sangeet Emperor Tansen’s city of Gwalior that here children cry when they cry, stones roll in rhythm. The market is crowded around this mausoleum, so try to travel with an auto rickshaw, if someone go with own vehicle, there can be a problem of parking. There is also a cab service in Gwalior which is a good option according to the crowd here. The tomb is 4 km from Gwalior Fort. There is no charge for viewing the tomb of Mohammad Gaus and Tansen, nor do any parking fees, and if you go there in summer, try to go early in the morning or at sunset. Gujari Mahal Archaeological Museum is located in the complex of the huge Gwalior Fort, the Gujari Mahal Archaeological Museum has a rich historical heritage as well as exquisite sculptures in itself. It is said that this palace was built by King Mansingh Tomar for his Gujar queen Mrignayani. The queen was of a lower caste, so Mahal was built away from the main fort. The magnificent architecture of the Gujari Mahal Museum is very beautiful from aerial view. Religious sculptures, weapons, stone artefacts and bronze antiques are on display in this museum. The birth of Lord Krishna and the main idols of Lord Vishnu display the excellence of the artisans of that time. The Gujari Mahal has one of the best exteriors which extremely attractive. The palace is now converted into an archaeological museum, so it has a large collection of Hindu and Jain sculptures. There is a school within the Mahal premises which was meant for the British soldiers at ancient times. Now it is run by the Scindia’s as is regarded as one of the best schools in the country, is also a major attraction here. The museum is also popular for a huge collection of photographs including the Bagh Cave paintings which is wonderful and historical monuments of India. The main attraction of Gujari Mahal Museum is the Gyaraspur Shalabhanjik sculpture and the statue of the Indian Monalisa. Although the museum is not so popular among tourists, there is a lot to see here. Gwalior Fort is located near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, central India. This fort is one of the oldest places in central India. Gwalior Fort is situated on a hill in Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh state, which is also known as Gwalior Fort. The height of this fort is 35 meters. This fort has been in existence since around 10th century. However, inscriptions and monuments found inside the fort complex in this fort indicate that this fort may have existed in the early 6th century. According to the history of this fort it has been controlled by various rulers. If you have come to visit Gwalior, then you must visit the Gwalior Fort located here. The fort is divided into 2 parts with a secure structure. One part is Gujari Mahal and the other is Mana Mandir. It was built by Raja Man Sing Tomar in the 8th century. Many kings in history have put this control on this fort at different times. Gujari Mahal was built for Queen Mriganayani. It is now known as a historical museum. The oldest documents associated with “Shunya” were found in a temple on the way to and from this fort. These were around 1500 years. This fort is situated at an altitude of 350 feet. The main entrance of the fort is known as Elephant Bridge which leads directly to the Maan Mandir Palace. The fort and its walls are being taken care of very well. Now the Gujari palace has been converted into an archaeological museum. The museum houses rare sculptures that date back to the first century AD. Sas Bahu Temple is located at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, central India. Sas Bahu’s temple is located in the history famous city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Built in the eleventh century, this temple is a wonderful specimen of magnificent sculpture. This temple was built in 1093 AD. Local people believe that this temple is dedicated to ‘mother-in-law and daughter-in-law’. It is also said that this temple is dedicated to Sahasrabahu i.e. Vishnu with thousand arms. The sculpture and etching of the Sas Bahu temple is superb. There are two temples here, one big and one small. The temple is made of red sandstone with lotus carvings. Its structure is pyramidal shaped with no arches. This is a beautiful specimen of beautiful sculpture. There is a square cell in the centre of this temple, which has three sides with darbar mandapa and a sanctum sanctorum on the fourth, which is now vacant. The temple has unique quality of architectural skill displayed in it, it has all the qualities of a fabulous to worship here. There are two temples, which are conjointly known as the Sas Bahu Temple is major attraction. One of the temples is bigger than the other and perhaps for that reason, one is considered as the Mother-in Law while the other as the Daughter-in-Law, is a myth. The temple of Teli is located in the Gwalior Fort. It is called the temple of oil man. It is a very large structure having a height of 100 feet. Its roof architecture is of the Dravidian style while the carvings and sculptures are of the North Indian style. Its architecture is a blend of Hindu and Buddhist architecture. It is the oldest monument in the fort of Gwalior. It was built in the 11th or 8th century. The temple of Teli was earlier the temple of Vishnu which later became the temple of Lord Shiva. Inside the temple are idols of goddesses, snakes, loving couples and Garuda. The architecture of this temple is brilliant with beautiful techniques and ideas.
