Loktak Lake, Imphal tourist places

A beautiful lake and the largest in Northeastern India, Loktak is famous for the “phumdies” floating on it, islands of vegetation and dirt that are slowly decomposing. 

This gives it a unique distinction of being the only lake of its kind in the world, and it is considered by some to be one of the Seven Wonders of India.

It is situated 17 km from Imphal and refreshes the memory of battle between Allied and Japanese forces in 1944. The new museum is stabilized in 2019 to showcase of war.

The museum also includes a imitation of a local farmhouse and a display of the costumes of many of the Manipuri tribes, whilst there is a Japanese war memorial by the entrance.

Red hill referred as historic hill south of Imphal, on the Tiddim Road. At the foot of the hill, on the Western side, are two memorials; one constructed by the Japanese, the other by the Indians, both commemorating the losses by both sides.

Manipur Zoological Park, Imphal tourist places

Manipur Zoo is 8 km away from Imphal Center. It was established on 1949 so that wild animal protection and breeding can be maintained.

A lot of animals have been kept here, but “Sanghai” which is a type of deer is quite famous. It is surrounded by flora and fauna and one can enjoy the natural beauty spread around the area.

The zoological park house many rare species around the world. There are more than 50 types of birds and 400 types of animals kept in this zoological park.

The imposing Minar of Bir Tikendrajit park standing tall in the eastern side of the Imphal Pologround of the state’s capital commemorates the indomitable spirit of Manipur martyrs who sacrificed their lives while fighting against the British in 1891.

It is quite place to rest for all people who come to Imphal. This place is very nearby to market of Manipur such as Nupi keithel, kwairembel market.

Many youngster are come here to have their meeting or data at free of course. Many old people come here to take rest from hot. It is very nice and beautiful place.

IMA market is called Market of lady vendors, Here all the vendors are ladies.

This place is located by the side of Imphal flyover in bazar. There are 3 newely constructed building which sell vegetables, fruits, dry fish and others daily use commodities.

This market is one of a kind in India. Ima market in Imphal is a market which has all old ladies selling handmade products, clothes, fruits, vegetables and fishes all day long.

The ladies work hard for a living and on a normal working day the market is open from around 07:00 to 19:00 in the evening. A must visit for tourists and an awesome place to be at.

War Cemetery, Imphal tourist places

Along with Kohima in neighboring Nagaland, Imphal was the site of a major victory over the Japanese in World War II. 

It is a pleasant cemetery dedicated to those who lost their live protecting India from Japanese aggression, and is a popular site for tourists and anyone seeking to pay their respects to the dead.

Sri Govindajee Temple, Imphal tourist places

The center of cultural life in Imphal and a historical site in its own right during the reign of the Manipuri Maharajas before the British, Sri Govindajee Temple is a beautiful structure in central Imphal characterized by two large domes with many idols of Hindu deities.

It is significant for both its history and religious importance among the locals.

Kangla Fort is a major tourist attraction in Imphal.  Held in high esteem by the Manipuris for its role in resisting the British during the many Anglo-Manipuri scuffles until the fort was taken in 1892.

Kaina Hill, Imphal tourist places

A sacred hill to the Hindus of Manipur, Kaina Hill has a fabulous vista of the Manipur valley and is a short ride and hike from Imphal. Many tourists visit the hill to take in the scenic environs.

Bir Tikendrajit International Airport (IMF) is the nearest airport, located at 7 km away from main city and has frequent flight for Bangalore, Silchar, Aizawl, Guwahati. The second major airport is Guwahati (GAU) which is 490 km away from Imphal.

Imphal By Train

The nearest railway station is Dimapur railway station (DMV) 210 km away and it is well connected with Nagaland and Regular trains run on all the major routes and cover cities including Guwahati, Kolkata etc. Cabs, taxis and public transport can be used to reach the Hotel and Sight-Seeing.

Imphal By Bus

Imphal is connected with Nagaland and Manipur Bus corporation and is well-connected with other cities across North-East like Aizawl, Dimapur, Shillong, Agarthal, Itanagar etc. One can choose State Road Transport Corporation or Private Agencies for book bus.
