During the 18th century, this city was a part of the Maratha Empire and has become a British territory after the defeat of the Marathas within the third Anglo-Maratha War. Until 1950, it had been a neighborhood of the Bombay Presidency.

Karwar Beach at Karwar, Karnataka is one of the gorgeous and unblemished beaches. The place is situated on Goa- Karnataka border giving an essence of both Western Ghats on one side and another filled with costal lines.

Sadashivgad Fort is located in Sadashivgad, a village in Karwar at a distance of 4.2 km from Karwar. It is a significant place and a major tourist attraction of the Karwar city.

This hill fort was named by Basalvingraj after his father Sadashivlingraj in 1715. At the banks of Kali River and the Andaman Sea is where this fort was built and was ruled by different rulers at different time periods such as the Portuguese, Marathas, and the British.

It was built on a 200m high hilltop by Raja Sonde in 1698.

Tilmati Beach, Karwar Tourist Places

Among the famous beaches of Karwar is the Tilmati Beach, located at Majali around 14 kms away from Kalwar city center.

Once they reach Majali visitors have to access to the beach by 1 km hike. The hike to the beach covers crossing a small stream and then climbing a small hill with the Arabian Sea on the left. After crossing the hill one will get to the beautiful Tilmati Beach.

Tilmati means sesame and the beach is the perfect definition of it as it looks like it too. Tilmati Beach is a black beauty because the sand which covers the beach is black sand which makes it different and one of a kind from the other beaches at Karwar region.

Chapal Warship Museum, Karwar Tourist Places

Chapal Warship Museum is situated at Kodibag, beside the Rabindranath Tagore beach, located in the city of Karwar, in the state of Karnataka of South India.

The museum is only about 1.1 km away from the city center. INS Chapal Warship Museum is a real naval ship which was converted to a warship museum in the year 2006.

Its code name is K94. INS chapal was a star of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and was one of the main reasons behind the India’s victory in the war.

After its long tenure of dedicated service in Indian Navy it was brought to the Rabindranath Tagore Beach and was converted to as museum ship.

The ship allows the visitors to experience the information on sea warfare with some amazing artifacts and collections which are exhibited at the museum.

There is also a fifteen minute documentary film which is shown inside the museum which has the information about India Naval history and of ports in India.
