Khandala in the state of Maharashtra is a hill station located in the Western Ghats and is surrounded by green valleys in western India near Mumbai. It is located three kilometers from Lonavala and seven kilometers from Karjat. Heavy road and rail traffic passes through this ghat. Manaranjan fort is 2700 feet high and it is one of the parts of two fort Rajmachi fort, the other one is Shrivardhan fort. It was built to overlook and guard the surrounding plateau and centuries-old trade route between Pune and Maharashtra. In the range of Sahyadris mountain and approx 9 km from Lonavala, Manaranjan Fort gives a special effect to the tourists. Located in Sahyadri mountain in Western ghat Rajmachi Fort is a historical place and this place is popular because of Shivaji Maharaj captured during the 17th century which gives enormous beauty of lush green mountain view. It is built with two forts one is Shriwrdhan Ballekilla and Manaranjan Balekilla. This fort is a famous place for trekking and for picnics. Rajmachi village is also called Udwadi. The Rajmachi Fort was built by the Satavahana dynasty, which established their kingdom soon after the fall of the Maurya Empire. He was a follower of Hinduism and ruled the Indian province peacefully from 230 BC. There are some temples that also form a part of this ancient fort, few temples are even older than the fort. Between the two forts lies the temple of Kal Bhairava, ancient Buddhist caves are situated on the western side of the Rajmachi plateau, and much more to visit nearby temples arround. To reach here, a tourist has to take a bus up to INS Shivaji and after that, a distance of 1.6 km has to be covered on foot. You can also visit the nearby view of INS Shivaji. Duke’s nose is also known as hawthorn. It was named after a British governor. It can be easily climbed on foot from Khandala station. Close to this hill are Sausage Hill and INS Shivaji. Duke’s Nose viewpoint is a very popular place in Khandala. It attracts many tourists throughout the year due to it trekking track and Hilltop viewpoint and lush green beauty of western ghat. The cliff is pointed like a snake’s hood and hence the name Nagphani. There are two trekking routes to reach Nagphani, one is from Khandala railway station and the other is from Kurvande. The first route takes 3-4 hours and the second 1.5 hours or 3-4 km and 2 km respectively. The second route is easier.

This fort, about 25 km east of Lonavla, in the Pune district of Maharashtra, is about 3050 ft high above sea level. Gadala is surrounded by four sides. In the south, the bastions of the bastions are a stronghold. Karnala, Manikgad, Prabalgad, Matheran, Moragad, Rajmachi, Tikona, Torna, Mulshi reservoirs, such a large area is seen from this fort. Located in Pune district near to Lonavala at Maharashtra on an important ancient trade route running from the Arabian Sea eastward into the Deccan Plateau. It’s called Bhaja Caves or Bhaje caves with a group of 22 rock-cut caves. The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaja. These Bhaja caves store historic events and are beautifully carved out of the mountains which makes them look astonishing. Caves are built by cutting big rocks and have many sculptures depicting so many styles. These caves are the perfect examples of Indian art of sculpturing and portray original Indian architecture in their styling. Hence can make a good photoshoot and can have a lot of fun. There is an entrance fee with a small amount, timings to visit from moring 8.30 am to 6 pm and arround 1 to 2 hours can spend which makes it worth a trip.

Lohgarh fort is one of the many hilly kilos of Maharashtra. This mountainous area is near Lonavala and 52 km away in the northern part of Pune. The fortress of Lohgarh is situated at an altitude of about 1033 m (3389 ft) above sea level. This fort is connected to its neighboring Visapur fort. Most of the time this fort remained near the Maratha empire, but only for 5 years, this fort remained near the Mughals. This fort is also UNESCO World Heritage sites and is very popular among the tourist for it Trekking, Lust green beauty, Hillside viewpoint, Illustrious history.

Tikona Fort, Khandala Tourist Places

It is popularly known as the ‘Triangle fort’. It is a popular destination for nature lovers. This fort, which is about 60 km from Pune near the dam on the Pawana river, is about 3500 feet high above sea level. Tung fort looks at 3-4 km away. It has been named Tikona due to its triangular shape.

There are no entrance fee charges, visiting time starts from 8 am and closed by 5 pm. It’s a good place for wandering and to know about history buffs. Even a good place for photo sessions.

Bedse Caves Khandala Tourist Places

Bedays caves are from the Bedsey village in Maval taluka of Pune district of Maharashtra. This village is on the way to the Pawana dam on the Pune-Mumbai highway from Kamaskhet. The Government of India has ceded this cave on May 26, The National Protected Monument of Maharashtra has been declared as 1909. Hinayana Buddhists joined hands to form these caves. Visitors can see the stunning architecture of animals and dancing postures. The main cave is recognized as the Chaitya Bhavan which means the prayer hall. There are no entrance fee charges, can visit between 8.30 am to 6 pm and can spend arround 1 to 2 hours. Visapur Fort, Khandala Tourist Places

Visapur alias Sabhagad is a fort while leaving Lonavla from Mumbai to Pune, Lohgad-Visapur attracts the attention of couples. Lohagad was seen in front of Mallavi railway station. However, the Visapur fortress hidden behind the hill is seen in Bhaje village. This Visapur fort, which breaks the Pawan Maval, protects the Khandala (Bore) Ghat. The entrance fee is free of cost, can visit at any time opens 24 hours and can spend time arround 2 to 3 hours. Tung Fort, Khandala Tourist Places

Tung fort is also named Kathingad fort. It is surrounded by water on three sides. It is an elevation of 1075 m above sea level. This fort requires about a 300-meter climb to reach and it takes around 45 minutes. There is accommodation facilities too There is shelter available in Maruti Temple & Bhairoba Temple, the Maruti mandir can accommodate 5-8 people, and Bhairoba temple can accommodate 15-20 peoples. It is part of the railway line and is quite popular among visitors. It is used to serve the town is regarded as one of the most picturesque spots in Khandala.
