Ramanathaswamy Temple is an important pilgrimage site for the followers of Hinduism.

It is consider that a visit to this temple washes away one’s sins and brings salvation (moksha).

Built and established in the 17th century, the grand Rameswaram temple lies to the eastern side of the Island.

Rameswaram Well known for its 1200 huge granite columns there is the 54 meter tall gopuram(tower) of the gate which is seen from a long distance.

There are about 1220 meters of magnificent corridors as well as the columns and pillars embellished with fine decorations. For the benefits of the pilgrims there are also built about 22 sacred wells where the waters taste different in all of them.

The temple premises occupy a major portion of the place of Rameshwaram. The temple was given different structuring by different rulers over a period of 12 centuries.

It has been since visited by then followers of Lord Shiva as well as Vishnu, whose incarnation was lord Rama. Agni Tirtham is one of the Tirthas of Rameswaram, in the state Tamil Nadu, India. This place is situated in Mosque Street in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. The place is very well organized and well maintained. One should definitely visit to see the phases of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. This is tiny museum that documents his illustrious life quite beautifully. The house in which he lived in growing up is situated in the Mosque Street. The house is now converted into a museum and has photographs, certificates, doctorates, honors and awards showcasing his life right from his childhood days. All his scholarly works are also documented here. The two storied building is maintained by his elder brother and the collections here have been arranged in a methodical fashion. All the medals and awards he has earned as well as his research work is on display in the museum. The ground floor you will find a small shop where one can buy handmade souvenirs and sea shells are a specialty here.

Ramar Patham is situated on top of the hill believed to be the highest point of Rameshwaram. One can get clear view of entire Rameswaram from this place. One can see Lord Rama’s foot print inside the temple. The temple is built with a basic architecture but still the looks around temple are magnificent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this memorial in the former president’s grave site in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. The memorial will reflect India’s various cultures and will pay homage to Kalam’s life, displaying replicas of rockets and missiles that the late ace scientist worked on. It is inaugurated on the second death anniversary of the missile man of India today. Every stone positioned in the memorial describes Kalam’s dream of United India. Mobile phones, shoes and bags are not allowed inside the museum. Entry is free. The place is easy to locate.

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, the five-faced Hanuman Temple, is located at a distance of 2 km from Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. This temple is devoted to Lord Hanuman. It is said that Lord had exposed his five faces here, hence the idol of Hanuman is depicted with five faces which are of Lord Hanuman in the middle along with faces of Lord Narasimha, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Garuda and Lord Hayagriva on the sides. The statue has been enclosed with senthooram by saints. In 1964, after the cyclone in Dhanuskhodi, the idols of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was brought to this temple and placed here. Also known as Panchamukha Anjaneya, Panchamukha Hanuman Temple is visited by almost every devotees who come for a Rameshwaram Tour. Along with the 5-faced Hanuman statue this place also houses the floating stones that are believed to be used while constructing the RamaSethu. One can see the stones floating in water in a caged barrier.

Thanushkodi(Dhanushkodi) is one of the honorable place that is situated to the End or it may be the Start of India. This is a Kothandaramaswamy Temple also known as Vibhishana temple, situated on the left side island on the way to Dhanushkodi from Rameshwaram. This temple is situated approx 13km from Rameshwaram. This is the only temple which survived 1964 cyclone which washed away completely the Dhanushkodi town. It is said by local people that this is the place were lord Rama has conducted “Pattabhishekam” (ascension to king of Lanka) to Vibhishana. It is also called as Vibhishan temple. This temple is very near to sea shore. We can a spectacular view of the sea from this temple. It is amazing place to visit in Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi.

A 300 year old church which got washed off in the cyclone. You can see the ruins of the Old Chruch, Post Office and Police Station ( all got destroyed in the massive cyclone of 1964) . More than 2000 people lost their lives during that cyclone. You will witness and experience the uncanny silence and the sadness that still prevails. The beach is beautiful and good for an evening walk. The Maxi Cab will pick you from the beach and drop you at the entry point. You must ensure that you have atleast 2 hrs of time in your hand. It takes time for tha Cab to drive through the waters. It is quite peaceful and can be called as South-End point from where Sri Lanka is around 20kms. Dhanushkodi beach is another greatest attraction, where Two Oceans Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal joins together (Sagara Sangamam); where Bay of Bengal seems very calm and compose whereas Indian Ocean seems very very aggressive with rough tides hitting the coast with heavy winds.
