Palolem Beach South Goa tourist places
Palolem Beach South Goa, The Southern or Northern part of Goa is stretched by white sand. A few years back, it was among the virgin beaches of Southern Goa.
However, it couldn’t escape from the eyes of the tourists. Although a few developments have taken place, the beach still has a peaceful atmosphere to it.
A large area of the beach now accommodates a lot of small restaurants and shacks. Fresh water stream is found at the northern end of the beach. There is one small island that can be reach by just swimming across during low tide.
However, it is not very safe to do so during rainy season or high tide. Dolphin cruises and the fishing trips are the other popular attractions. These are offered at quite a reasonable rate.
Accomodation is easily available here. And though there are a couple of money exchange canters, Palolem does not have any banks.
The closest railway station is at Canacona, which is just 3 km away and Madgaon railway station is 58 km away from Palolem. From there taxis and local buses are easily available.
Colva Beaches South Goa tourist places
Colva is the most popular beach among the Goans with its white powder sands on the shores of the Arabian Sea. Colva is Goa’s longest beach with 20 km of virgin white sands that are fringed with palms and drenched with the sun. The small village of Colva is located in south Goa, 39 km away from Panaji (the old name for Panjim) the capital of the state of Goa. Benaulim is 2 km further ahead of Colva. The Colva Beach is broad and beautiful, and has a stream coursing through it. Sadly, its beauty has made it popular and its popularity has cheapened it: its off-beach shops and restaurants, brightly lit and crowded, give it the feel of a funfair rather than a serene, unwinding beach. This is essentially our domestic tourists’ paddling beach. The Nossa Senhora de Merces (Our Lady of Mercy) Church in Colva is famous for its annual religious event-Fama of Menino Jesuse (Child Jesus)-since the 17th century. It is one of Goa’s most popular feasts when a big fair is held on the occasion. Bullfights can be seen at Benaulim from early October to late May. The bullfights are usually held in an old rice field with no fences or barricades just outside a village, to the beat of taped Konkani music. A walk on the beaches is full of delights. Shimmering silver carpets of bangdde (mackerels) lie drying on the golden sands. Fishermen’s motor trawlers lie anchored in a line offshore. Tourists in colorful dresses throng about and several of them can be seen sunbathing in the glorious sun. Trinket stalls and drink stands on the golden sands make a moonlit evening on the Colva Beach utterly romantic. The Beach Bonanza fair that is held on successive Sundays from mid-April onwards on the Benaulim beach is a must not miss! Frenzied visitors dance in merriment and other entertainment. There are plenty of resorts and low-budget hotels in and around Colva. Benaulim too has a few hotels. Besides it is possible to rent houses for a longer stay.
Varca & Cavelossim South Goa tourist places
Varca & Cavelossim are a 10 km strip of clean and tidy beach in South Goa, with a numeral of hotels of varying degrees of luxury. This stretch with Cavelossim and varca Beaches has been patronized by the affluent tourists and can almost be called Goa’s up market resort beach. These beaches are much cleaner and less crowded than most of the popular beaches of Goa. They have a many beach shacks offering a variety of Goan cuisine and seafood at reasonable prices. Several food joints around Cavelossim offer entire packages of good food, drink, and a pleasant service at rather reasonable rates. This is good place for boating and Dolphin spot at Betty’s Place. The main attraction in Varca beach are water spots and beach leisure activities. The night life of Varca beach is very vibrant with all the parties going on after the sun down.
Bogmalo and Majorda South Goa tourist places
Bogmalo is small, clean and less crowded place in Sounth Goa where as Majorda is broad, flat and open beach that lie close to the port city of Vasco and are ideal for picnickers. This is less crowded beach among the many famous beaches of Goa. There are small groups of beach shack, restaurants and a few fishing villages spread under the coconut palms here. Shipwrecks stuck in the silt can be seen from here. The Majorda beach and the Majorda Beach Resort stretch out to the southern part of Bogmalo. The best Goan toddy can be found here, as well as the best European breads. According to the Goan people, Lord Rama was kidnapped as a child and brought up at Majorda. Later, in pursuit of Sita, he stayed at Cabo de Rama, a headland that lies further south and where there is now a fort.
Benaulim beach South Goa tourist places
Benaulim is one beach that has strings of tradition attached to it that one wouldn’t generally expect from a beach. This place created by Lord Parshurama when their arrow landed here, It is said by locals. Dolphin Cruises are the main attractions on this beach. Dolphin Cruises offered here are not only reasonably priced and are definitely worth it as the chances of spotting dolphins prance about are very high. Benaulim village is popular not only for its charm but also for its rosewood furniture. The carvings that one finds on these pieces are really noteworthy. Buses from Margao, Colva, Varca, Cavelossim and Mobor pass through Benaulim every half hour.
Agonda beach South Goa tourist places
The Agonda beach is a small, charming and isolated beach situated 37 Kms away from the town of Margao where nature lovers can find peace of mind. It is relatively less crowd due to its distances from the main cities and is the next beach after Palolem when are driving towards Panaji. Agonda Beach is a three-kilometer long and lonely, beautiful bay of white sand that is fringed with palms and casuarinas. It is surrounded by a large hill to its southern costal part. There are very few facilities available here with few tourists, less souvenir stalls and restaurants. It is also not safe to swim out too far on this beach. The fort of Cabo de Rama is near from Agonda beach. It is as yet less discovered by most visitors.
