South Sikkim tourist places: It is the smallest district lies its size with its variety of tourist attractions in South Sikkim.

It is popular for natural beauty, Ravangal, Namchi and many monastry with breathtaking view of the Khangchendzonga range, the south of Sikkim is a fairy tale land of picturesque villages and high hills.

Near Namchi, the district headquarters is Samdruptse Hill, the site of the 135 feet tall statue of Guru Padmasambhava.

In the south too are Tendong Hill and Maenam Hill, of mythical importance to the Lepchas and Bhutias, as well as the tourist destination of Ravangla which hosts the annual Pang Lhabsol festival with great pageantry.

Namchi is the capital of the South Sikkim. The Namchi means Sky (Nam) High (Chi) in Bhutia. Namchi is the headquarters of South District of Sikkim which is the second most populated district in the State. It is situated at an altitude of 1675 m above sea level and is around 78 Km from the state capital Gangtok. The Namchi literally means ‘Sky High’. Namchi is also the closest major Sikkim city to West Bengal. Namchi is just 100 Km from Siliguri. The district headquarter is fast becoming an important tourist destination in Sikkim for some of the best trek routes around. While on the treks, you can witness the magical beauty of this sedate town. Namchi is also an important pilgrimage destination as it has the revered Namchi Monastery. A number of waiting sheds, view points and waterbodies along its footpaths have been provided. A neat and clean cafeteria serves the tourists and visitors well. Around two kms from Namchi is the old Ngadak monastery which is now being renovated. Situated on a hill just above Ngadak monastery is the very attractive Rock Garden, which is full of rare flowers and plants and also offers breathtakingly beautiful views.

Samdruptse literally means ‘wish fulfilling hill’ in the Bhutia language. A unique, awe inspiring and gigangtic 135 feet high statue of Guru Padamasambhava is installed atop Sampruptse.135 ft high Is the tallest statue of statue of Guru Padmasambhava In the world. Located on a soaring hilltop. 7.5 km from the marketplace, the spot also offers some spectacular sights. One can also catch some fabulous sunrise and sunset upon this wish fulfilling hill (for that is what Samdruptse means in Bhutia). The foundaion stone of the landmark was laid by Hit the Dala Lansa in October 1997 and the enormous statue was finally completed and consecrated in Novembe.

One of the oldest rnonastecies in Sikkim, it was constructed In the reign of the Chogyal Chakdor Namgyal around 1700 AD. Ngadak means promise and one could discover some moments of bliss in the monastery lying around 3 km from Namchi. Serdup Cheling Monastery and Duchen Cheling Belonging to the Nylngmopa Buddhist sect. this monastery Is located about a kilometer from the marketplace.

Ravangla (a.k.a Rabongla) is a small town in South Sikkim, at an elevation of 7000 ft. Ravangla has always been the fascinating place, the walks around here are pleasantly cool and so is the pace of life. So slow and easy that it’s bound to mollify the rush in you. You can take short hikes into the woods or get on the three-hour uphill trail to Maenam Peak at 10,612 feet passing through Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary lush with gergeous magnolias and rhododendron. Another half hour’s walk will take you to ‘Bhaledhunga’ the cliff resembling a rooster’s head. Also ogle at the mountain range. Khanchendzonga, Siniolchu,Pandim and Kabru in a row couldn’t be more beautiful.

How to reach Gangtok

South Sikkim By Air:

Bagdogra, West Bengal(IXB) is the nearest airport, located  at distance of 124 km. One can book Bus,Share Taxi or Cab to reach their Gangtok. Namchiis 74 km away and it takes 2 hr from Gangtok, NJP or Darjelling. Pakyong Airport, Pakyong is also nearest but it is not recommende because frequent flight not available and some time flight also cancelled as per weather.

South Sikkim By Train:

New Jalpaiguri (NJP)  is well connected and located 74km away. Regular trains run on all the major routes and cover cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. Bus, Cabs, Share taxis and public transport can be used to reach Gangtok, From Gangtok it takes 2 hr to reach Namchi.

South Sikkim By Bus:

Namchi Bus Stand is well-connected  Siliguri. You can avail either state-owned government buses or private buses, depending on your budget and can book online and offline both.

South Sikkim Self Drive:

Car is the best option as you can explore more and as their own choice. Gangtok, Siliguri and Darjeeling and other neighboring cities of west sikkim are the best route to roam west sikkim.

                Namchi located centrally. You can easily get good hotels and It cost under 1000-2000/- Per Night, depends on Pick and Off seasons.

Best Time To Visit South Sikkim

         It is among one of the best place where visitors visit through-out the year except December to February. However, the best time to visit West Sikkim is in Summer months from March to June. The average temperature ranging from 4°C to 20°C, making it an ideal for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. The Winter is very cold and some of the area is closed, it is not advisible. Monsoon is also make hectic due to land slide and rain so better to avoid in this season.
