Ujjayanta Palace, Tripura tourist places
Ujjayanta Palace is a museum that was built by Raja Radha Kishore Manikya of Tripura between 1890 and 1901.
It is one of the most famous historical and tourist attractions in Tripura. This palace is present in Agartala in Tripura with white glow and is situated next to a small pond, which further enhances its beauty.
Travelers spend many hours here and experience a different kind of eternal atmosphere. The architectural beauty actually defines the royal taste of the Empires.
Earlier it was the palace of the Tripura Raj family, turned into a museum of Tripura.
Ujjayanta Palace was heavily chested in the floods of Assam in 1897, but was later rebuilt by Maharaja King Ishan Chandra Manikya. This palace is now a State Museum.
Several Hindu temples adjacent to this palace, dedicated to Lakshmi Narayan, Uma-Maheshwari, Durga and Jagannath. As well as Rajbari Lake adjacent to this palace. Famous “Haveli Museum and Fourteen Gods Temple” is near this palace.
Neermahal Melaghar, Tripura tourist places
Neermahal literally means Water Palace. The place is a picturesque fairytale Royal mansion located in the middle of the Rudrasagar Lake which is 53 km South of Agartala.
Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya built the palace in 1930 A.D as his summer residence being inspired by Mughal Style of Architecture.
Viewing Neermahal from the back of Rudrasagar reminds one of the famous and enchanting ‘Jagniwas Palace’ in Pichola Lake at Udaipur, Rajasthan.
It is a fascinating sight to view the reflection of the palace on the placid water of the Rudrasagar Lake. The dome-shaped miners of the palace have attributed a fort-like look to the mansion.
The ‘Darbar Hall’ of the palace even today stands as an epitome of past Royal pomp and grandeur. It is home to many Indian and migratory bird and is spread in 5.3 square kms area.
Boat festival is celebrated every year in July /August in Neermahal. Travelers can also enjoy boating and water sports.
Tripura Sundari Temple, Tripura tourist places
The temple is considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas; legend says that the little finger of the left leg of Sati fell here. Here, Shakti is worshipped as Tripurasundarī and the accompanying Bhairava is Tripuresh.
The main shrine, a cubical edifice with a three-tier roof with a finial, erected by Maharaja of Tripura Dhanya Manikya in 1501 AD, is constructed in the Bengali Ek-ratna style.
There are two similar but different sized black stone idols of the Goddess in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
The larger and more prominent idol of 5 feet height is of Goddess Tripura Sundari and the smaller one, adorably called Chhoto-Ma (literally, Little Mother), is 2 feet tall and is an idol of Goddess Chandi.
Folklore says that the smaller idol was carried by the kings of Tripura to the battlefield.
Every year on the occasion of Diwali, a famous Mela takes place near the temple which is visited by more than 0.2 million pilgrims.
