Wayanad is one of the twelve districts of Kerala situated between Kannur and Kozhikode districts. The Banasur Sagar Dam is located 21 km from Kalpett town and is built on a tributary of the Kabini River. This dam has been constructed according to the Banasur Sagar Project. The project started in 1979. This project was mainly done for regular water supply for those areas which had drought conditions during summer.The dam on the Banasura Sagar is known as the largest dam in India. The dam is located in the southeastern part of Wayanad district and is adjacent to Karlad Lake. The Banasura Sagar Dam also has a starting point for climbing the Banasura Peak. An interesting attraction here is the group of islands, which are formed by the reservoir submerging the surrounding areas.

The two rock vaves at Ambukuthy Hills, 12 kms south of Sultan Battery (travel time: 20 min), contain ancient carvings and pictorial writings with human and animal figures in peculiar headers along with geometric form and symbols. History lovers and other travelers find the ancient carvings and writings done on these caves quite interesting. They speak of a highly civilized people at an early centre of human habitation. What makes it a cave to the ordinary observer is the fact that in the other portion of the large cleft, an enormous rock, weighing several tonnes, has fallen forming a roof over a large part of it. The caves, located on an ancient route connecting the high ranges of Mysore to the ports of Malabar, are a source of mystery to archeologists. Though the origins of the engravings in the cave (generally depicting images of tribal kings, queens, elephant, deer and wheeled carts) are still unknown, but they are attractive enough to entice a visitor. The cave immortalises the memory of a tribe that hunted in the forests, tamed and bred animals, and farmed on the hill sides. Situated on the 1000-meter-high Ambukuthi hill, this cave attracts thousands of travelers every year. This is a total of 3 caves which is a proof of human lifestyle of ancient times.

At a distance of 24 km from Kalpetta & 1 km from Sulthan Bathery Bus Station, Jain Temple is an ancient temple located in the heart of Sulthan Bathery town in Wayanad district. This is one of the most important amongst a series of ruins spread across Kerala that testify to a period of a strong Jain presence in this region and also one of the best heritage. The Jain Temple at Sultan Bathery is believed to have been built in 13th century AD. The temple has an interesting history. It first served as a shrine, and then became an important center of commercial activity. Later in 18th century, it became a dumping ground of ammunitions by Tipu Sultan.

Kuruva Island is a river delta situated on the Kabini River. It is an important river in Wayanad district. Like evergreen trees are exploding in the delta forming Kuruva island. This island is extremely popular among tourists who want to explore the abundance of nature. The richness of nature found on the island of Kuruva draws tourists from all over the world. You can hire fiber boats or fleets which are provided by the Kerala Tourism Department. To maintain the natural beauty of this island, entry is given only at certain times of the year. It is therefore necessary to obtain the permission of the van department before entering the island. The geographical peculiarity of this island makes this place evergreen with a serene ambience. Dwelling deep into this island, you can sight many attractive things like bridges made up of bamboo trees and other rare species of trees. Partying and picnic are restricted here as the authorities are enjoying eco-tourism in Kuruva Island. Just enjoy the beauty without spoiling the pristine nature. Entry to this island is restricted during rainy seasons (from June to September). The island is opened during the months from October to May and there is a nominal entry fee to the island. The time schedule is from morning 9 to evening 5.

Sochippara Falls of Kalpetta is popularly known as Sentinel Rock Falls in the area which falls from a height of 100 to 300 feet. This waterfall is 22 km from Kalpetta. Located near Mippadi. Sochi in Malayalam means – Needle means needle and mercury means stone, thus Sochippara got the name of this waterfall. There are three parts of this waterfall which fall into Meenmutty, Kanthapara and Suchippara. Finally, these three streams proceed and join the Chaliyar river.
