Udupi district, which stands as a symbol for temple and cultural tradition, is a small district comprising three taluks. On the west it is bounded by the roaring sea and to its east reclines the dense green Sahyadri mountain ranges. Udupi district in the Karnataka state of India was created in August 1997.

The three northern taluks, Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala, were separated from Dakshina Kannada District. Udupi is famous for Ashta Matha, i.e. eight Matts and Sri Krishna Temple. The administrative headquarters of Udupi district is Udupi.

It had a nascent career as a financial hub till the 60s, with many banks being established here, but most of them got nationalized. The primary languages of Udupi district are the Tulu, Kannada and Konkani.

Udupi Sri Krishna Temple is situated centrally and it one of the oldest famous Hindu temple in India dedicated to god Krishna. It is surrounding with many several temple known as Udupi Anantheshwara temple.

Paryaya is most enjoyable function and it is held on every 2 years. The festivals like Makara Sankranthi, Ratha Sapthami, Madhva Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Navarathi, Vijaya Dashami, Naraka Chathurdashi, Deepavali,etc. are celebrated very grandly every year.

There are eight mathas are Pejavara, Puttige, Palimaru, Adamaru, Sodhe, Kaniyooru, Shirur and Krishnapura. They do offer lunch (prasadam) every day.

There are small sized shops near the temple and the place is called as Car Street. You can walk around the car street for some quick shopping from all pooja items to some idols, accessories etc.

The morning and evening is much beautiful and the ambience is so divine that you don’t feel like leaving the place.

Malpe beach, Udupi Tourist places

Situated 15 km from Udupi Bus stand, Malpe Beach is the most famous attraaction in Udupi. The Malpe Beach of Udupi is among the top ten bathing beaches in this reson.

Being one of the busiest and most commercial beaches of Udupi, it is also serving many hotels and restaurants.

The Malpe Beach is also known for its water sports activities like parasailing, water surfing,Speed boat, banana ride, jet-skiing etc.

Kapu Beach, Udupi Tourist places

Kapu Light House beach which can reach the service bus stand via NH 66 in 30 minutes (15 km). The sea is very beautiful and clean and the white sand in it makes this place more beautiful.

The view from above the light house is amazing. The main attraction is the lighthouse that you can climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and the ocean.

The lighthouse remains open until 5.30 to 6p.m. and provides a 360-degree view. It is a slight climb to the top, and the ladder is quite steep in places, though the view is well about it. The beach is filled with white shelled crabs during the later hours of the evening.

Mattu Beach, Udupi Tourist places

The beach offers breathtaking view and one can feel relaxed with swimming. It is popular for walks, enjoyfull sunset views and picnics.

It is a 30 Kms long beach and 15 kilometers to left is Kaup beach and 15 kms to the right is Padukere beach running all along the beaches of Arabian Sea.

It is one of the less crowded beaches in coastal area situated around 5km from main road. It is best place to have morning and evening walk. It is amazing beach with beautiful view and less crowded for people who love to take quite strides along the beach side.

It is surrounded with natural beauty and situated around 55 km from Udupi main city. It’s a place which can give you wonderful feeling of trekking, beautiful scenery of nature along with water falls(rainbow in falling water of waterfall).

Water is literally cold moreover we enjoyed swimming about an hour, but roads are not in good condition. Visitors has to move slowly with driving too with good skills required.

The scenic beauty of the fall will stay in your heart for a while. Make sure to reach the place by noon. The sun rays fall directly on the waterfall and result in formation of a rainbow.

There are small leaches on the nearby rocks so be careful. The falls is open from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M and camera charge is 200. Travelers needs to do 2 to 3km trek is must and average man can reach within 2 hours.

The water fall is closed during rainy season and visitors are not allowed to visit this place to avoid any sort of accidents as the water flow will be high. Best time to visit this place in between December to June.

Sri Brahmi Durga Parameshwari Temple, Udupi Tourist places

It is situated only 3 kilometer away from Udupi in northwest direction. The ancient Temple, built in the 13th century, has an idol of Goddess Durga in the form of a stone-vessel.

It is said that the Temple was constructed by Saint Parashurama. It is very old temple in Udupi district situated 35 km away from Kundapura. Devotees can listen that goddess story about the temple by Pujari which give you never forgettable experience.

There is Rathothsava festival held in every March during and special pooja held on temple in Navaraatri season. In an every week Friday special decoration for Goddess and Flower-pooja happens during this time.

Udupi does not have an airport. Nearest airport is Bajpe Airport. Bajpe airport (IXE), mangalore, karnataka-48 km. Hubli airport (HBX), hubli, karnataka-230 km.

There are many regular trains to Udupi from other major cities of the state. Udupi Railway Station(UD) is well connected with other major railhead such as Goa, Telangana, Tamilnadu etc.
