Later the RaisalRajputs built the temple here but during Aurangzeb’s attack this statue was also taken to Jaipur. Since then Gopinath ji is seated in the Gopinath temple located in the old settlement there. Radha Gopinath Temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Vrindavan. It is situated on the banks of Yamuna ji. Vrjanabha, the great-grandson of Lord Shri Krishna, mourned the original Radha Gopinath deity in Vrindavan five thousand years ago. About five years ago, Parmanand Bhattacharya discovered the God of the Earth at Banshivat on the banks of the Yamuna. Gopinath Devta was worshiped by Madhu Pandit Goswami, a disciple of Sri Gadadhar Pandit, a close associate of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Once, JaithavThakurni, wife of Nityananda Prabhu came to Vrindavan. She was looking at Sri Radha-Gopinath, thought that the god of Radhika is very small and if the god of Radhika was a bit tall, then the couple would look much more beautiful. JahanvThakurni returned to his home after watching the ceremony in the evening. That night, in one of his dreams, Shri Gopinathji asked Jahanav to arrange for a tall god of Radhika. He received similar instructions from Radhika, and had a deity made to him which was a proper size for the deity of Gopinath. In the book Bhakta-Mala, it is described that at the time of JahanavaThakurni’s disappearance, he revealed his deity and established himself. He instructed the priest to install his deity in Sri Gopinath’s chamber. When this deity reached the temple of Gopinath in Vrindavan, the priests hesitated to install him along with Shri Gopinath. At that time, Gopinath instructed himself to the priests, “Do not hesitate. This is my beloved AnangManjari. Place him to my left and Radhika to my right.” And so it happened that where Lord is standing on the left side of Sri Gopinath And Radhika stands on his right. JahanavaThakurni is seated on the left side of Gopinath, and Lalita Sakhi with Radhika, a small deity sitting on her right. Formerly near the new temple is the tomb of Madhu Pandit.

It was built on the basis of the style map of the Rang Nath temple of Madras given by Acharya Swami Rangacharya, the great Sanskrit emperor. It cost forty five lakh rupees. Its outer wall is 773 feet in length and 440 feet in width. Apart from the temple, a beautiful lake and a garden are also attached to it separately. The gopura of the temple gate is very high. Sixty feet high and about twenty feet in front of Lord Ranganatha, a copper pillar sunken within the ground was made. The cost of this column alone was ten thousand rupees. The main gate of the temple is covered with a 93 feet high pavilion. It is of the Mathura style. A little away from it is a roof-covered building, in which the chariot of God is kept. It is made of wood and is huge. This chariot is taken out only once a year in Chaitra at the time of Brahmotsavam. This Brahmotsavam-Mela takes ten days. Everyday God goes in the chariot from the temple. Walking from the road, the chariot leads to 690 GajRangji’s garden where a platform is made for the reception. This procession is accompanied by music, fragrant materials and torches. On the day the chariot is used, the idol of Ashtadhatu is installed in the middle of the chariot. On either side of it, the Chaudhari Brahmins stand. Along with the crowd, Seth people also pull the chariot’s rope. This distance is crossed by putting a lot of force in the interval of about two and a half hours. A fireworks display is performed at Bella in the evening on the following day. A crowd of visitors from around the place also gathers on the occasion. Other days, when the chariot is not in use, there are many vehicles for the journey of God – sometimes the Jadau palanquin and sometimes the Punya Kothi, sometimes the throne.
